Hi! My name is Barb Colburn. Some people know me as Crazy Yaya – a name given to me by my grandchildren. A crown I wear proudly!

Approximately 15 years ago, I saw an elementary school art project where they created collages on glass votive cups by cutting and pasting tissue paper. Out of curiosity, I decided to see how I could elevate this process by using fibrous handmade papers, hand tearing them instead of cutting to create more natural, innate edging. Eventually, elements of nature – leaves, flowers, seeds, etc. – were added to the process.

When a client requested that feathers be included in a custom-made piece, it required developing a process to add the feathers in an artful way. Not an easy thing to do, but the result was beautiful. This was incredibly inspiring, and the client was over-the-moon happy with the finished piece. So much so, she ordered more pieces to give as gifts. As a result, I have included feathers in numerous pieces since.

The business started as a hobby, participating in local holiday craft shows. Recently, I shared some of my art with friends at a local networking meeting. They urged me to “think bigger” – and I have. Being able to share art from my heart with people in a much broader way has inspired me not only to rebrand myself, but to expand how I can share it, and touch others in more ways.
